Rumor Mill: Carmax Coming to EG Auto Mall? More Traffic? More Headaches? No Thanks.
Rumor Brought to you by Sacbee’s Bob Walter,
Maxing out the (auto) mall: Turns out that adding CarMax, the nation’s biggest used-car retailer, to the Elk Grove Automall is not such a far-fetched notion after all.
The Richmond, Va.-based company, which had $8.2 billion in sales last fiscal year, has superstores in Roseville and Modesto, and reportedly has been scouting the area in between those stores for a while.
And Mark Nelson, co-developer of the 127-acre mall, said the Elk Grove dealers could vote to change the guidelines to allow a used-car operation.

With Elk Grove Ford closing, CarMax would be a good addition.
Hopefully they would take over the same location so there would not be empty buildings there.
More services for more people, what’s wrong with that?

Dan – im saying “Headache” in the context of traffic impact with the test drivers and such. Also, it not the best way to stimulate EGs econ by relpacing a failed business with more of the same. Cars are not selling now. Maybe the EG Market is tapped? Plus more low wage jobs are not what we need. Higher paying jobs should be the goal. The Auto mall dealers have been coddled too long by EG pols as well. its a power conglomerate over there.
